Orkney-based jewellery designer Sheila Fleet has become one of only two jewellers to be named as an authorised maker and retailer of Scottish Gold.
The gold comes from the Cononish Gold Mine near Tyndrum in the west of Scotland. It’s the only commercial gold mine in the country and won’t be fully operational until early 2019. This means the gold supplies will be limited, so any pieces made from this special metal will be rare and unique additions to any collection.
Sheila was present at the official opening of the mine in August 2016 and saw the first gold being won from the rocks. Run by Scotgold Resources, the mine is using traditional, environmentally-friendly techniques.
Now she is currently working on ring designs with her first batch supply of Scottish gold at her workshop in Tankerness, in Orkney’s East Mainland.
