Orkney makers heading to Glasgow

14 Orkney businesses are heading to Glasgow this month to promote their products at a major food, drink and craft fair.

The biannual Scotland’s Trade Fair and Speciality Food & Drink Show will bring together exhibitors from around the country at the city’s SEC between 19 – 21 January.

They’ll be visited by thousands of buyers from stores, tourist attractions, retail outlets and more, offering the chance for local makers to meet a range of new customers.

Eight Creative Orkney members will be taking part in the Trade Fair element; Aurora Jewellery, Birds in Print, Celina Rupp Jewellery, Flow Glass, Leo Kerr Mirrors, Orkney Cloth, Ortak, and Sheila Fleet Jewellery.

Kirsteen Stewart, Project Manager for Creative Orkney, said: “It’s the perfect way to get the year started for our members, with excellent opportunities to speak to potential new buyers face to face. Some of our newer makers will be taking part for the first time this year and the fair lets them present their products and hopefully find new outlets throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.”

Representing Orkney Food & Drink will be; Argo’s Bakery, J. Gow Rum, Jollys of Orkney, Orkney Creamery, Stockan’s Oatcakes, and Westray Bakehouse.

Kerry Leask, Project Manager for Orkney Food & Drink, said: “There are thousands of buyers set to attend over the course of the event so it’s a real showcase for Orkney’s incredible larder. Travelling south during the winter is always challenging but our members are raring to go and are looking forward to meeting lots of new faces and customers.”

Attendance at the fairs is supported by Orkney Marketing, a joint initiative between Highlands & Islands Enterprise and Orkney Islands Council.
