The Cottage is in a peaceful setting amongst fields, hills and a stream. The area is teaming with wildlife and there are reported sightings of Orca, basking shark and sea otters. Birdlife includes Hen Harriers, Fulmars, Gannets, Guillemots, Cormorants, Razorbills etc. Also, Puffins at nearby cliffs. The cottage adjoins an RSPB and cliff reserve. Visitors can enjoy visiting the nearby beach of Mae Sands, a popular spot for inquisitive seals.

The cottage is a holiday home with a large open plan sitting area and adjoining kitchen/dining area. There are two bedrooms comprising a large double bedroom with king size bed and a twin-bedded bedroom. Bathroom has a bath with overhead shower. Externally, the former garage overlooking the sea, is now an observation and seating area with large glass patio doors.

The cottage is well equipped with electric cooker, microwave, air fryer, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a TV, DVD, landline telephone and a good selection of games and books.

Bedlinen and towels are supplied. There is a driveway for vehicles. Heating is by means of storage and electric heaters.

Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome. Please bring your own dog beds, bowls, etc.

West Kirbest is a six-minute, 3.4-mile car drive to Pierowall village, which has two well stocked shops. There is the Pierowall Hotel, Bistro and café, art galleries, heritage centre, Bargain Box charity shop. There is also a community swimming pool at the school. The sixteenth century, Noltland castle is nearby, as is a small golf course and excellent chip shop, Jack’s Chippy which is open on Wednesday and Saturday 4.30pm to 8.00pm

HISTORY

West Kirbest cottage has been with the same family for over 100 years. The owner’s father inherited the ruinous croft and had it rebuilt in 1974. His father was brought up there and became a pupil teacher at the Westside school. He later became a school headmaster on Scotland’s mainland.
