Stromness Museum Snorkel Safaris – 30th July & 20 August 2023

2 sessions each day - 11am and 2pm

Booking essential: To Book email info@krakendiving.co.uk

We are teaming up with Orkney dive school Kraken Diving to offer two snorkel safaris this summer.

Session 1: (30th July) will take place at the museum’s very own pier on 30 July. We’ll look at some of the historic specimens in our natural history collection and learn about Seasearch marine conservation project. Then we’ll go for a guided snorkel in dry-suits to see what we can find. When we come out the water we’ll note down which species we saw.

This is perfect for beginner snorkelers and those who want to experience Orkney’s underwater world for the first time.

Session 2: (20 August ) will be in Finstown in the Bay of Firth. This will allow snorkelers to experience one of Orkney’s most important underwater habitats: seagrass. We’ll find out why seagrass is so special and learn how to identify some of the animals which live amongst it.

This safari is best suited to those with good water confidence due to the sensitivity of the seagrass.

Dry suits available for those age around 10 and over. £50 ticket includes kit hire, museum entry, a short behind-the-scenes look at our Natural History Collection (for the 30th July safari) and a ‘Creature Features’ fact-sheet to take away.
