The new exhibition at Stromness Museum explores its extensive collection of pressed seaweed specimens, gathered between 1839 and 1962.
The exhibition also focuses on how the collection has helped inspire local artists to create new works. As part of the display, the Museum will be showcasing and selling pieces from Orkney designer Sheila Fleet’s latest jewellery collection, ‘Sea Moss’, which has been influenced by seaweed samples collected by ‘Gunner’ during World War One.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 16th November and ends on Saturday 10th May 2025. The Museum is open Monday to Saturday between 11am and 3.30pm. Entry is £7.50 for adults, £5 for students, with free entry for children under 16.
