Fiddle and Latin percussion duo Catriona Price & Joni Strugo present intimate evenings of intercultural music from around the world.

Exploring the music of each other’s rich and diverse cultural backgrounds, the concert features arrangements of Scottish, Argentinian, Jewish and German music, as well as original compositions and tunes from some of the places that have impacted them the most.

Having met at a global music conference in late 2023 and first collaborated a few weeks later in Mexico as part of Routes to Roots (an organisation creating intercultural collaborations to connect communities), the duo connected over their shared passion for learning about other cultures through music. This, their first ever set of duo concerts, sees them exploring the possibilities between fiddle and percussion, Argentina and Scotland, and how their combined cultural and multi-genred backgrounds can influence the original music that transpires.

Born and raised in Orkney, violinist, composer and artistic director Catriona Price creates cross-genre music, with a focus on artistic innovation and cultural exchange. One of the most versatile Scottish musicians on the international stage, Catriona is a member of folk band Fara and contemporary duo Twelfth Day, Artistic Director of Routes to Roots and Co-artistic Director of the string ensemble Thirteen North. Catriona’s debut solo album Hert was released in 2023 and in 2024 she was awarded an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. Catriona is passionate about breaking down genre barriers and collaborating across art forms and cultures in all of her work.

Argentinian drummer, percussionist and music producer Joni Strugo, is a leading innovator on the vibrant Latin American music scene. Working globally across multiple genres and disciplines, Joni is co-founder of El Guapo - an original music group fusing Latin American jazz and global genres, La Kosher Nostra - a leading Latin American Jewish music party band, and the remote music production studio El Guapo Music. Alongside his own projects, Joni is also in demand as a session musician in the diverse music scene of Buenos Aires, and around the world.

The duo will be performing at the Orkney Distillery on 2nd August, the Gable End Theatre in Hoy on 3rd August, at The Kelp Store in Papa Westray on 6th August, and at the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness on 7th August.
