Join us for an evening with Orkney crime fiction author Les Cowan on Tuesday 13 December at 7:30pm at Stromness Town Hall.

Crime fiction genre is not only the most popular fiction genre but apparently sells more than all the rest put together. So what makes a successful crime novel?

Usually a murder, a hard pressed but brilliant detective, an investigation involving twists, turns and red herrings and then, finally, a brilliant deduction and the apprehension of the culprit.

The David Hidalgo series has almost none of these elements. Les Cowan’s talk will explore what makes the David Hidalgo series different in the crime / thriller genre. Together we’ll think about crime issues that impact our wider society, a non-professional protagonist and some “bigger picture” questions that ask how any of us should respond when things are not as they should be.

The David Hidalgo series has gathered top reviews in the Herald, Scotsman, Press and Journal, Scots Magazine and online; however perhaps one reader sums them up best as tales of “corruption and compassion.”
