'Making a Handaxe' Book Launch - Mark Edmonds

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2022 AT 7:30 PM – 10 PM, JOHN RAE ROOM IN STROMNESS WAREHOUSE BUILDINGS. Free Event.

Archeologist and artist Mark Edmonds will be launching his book Making a Handaxe. An exploration of an ancient, worked stone that currently lives with the writer Alan Garner.

Nearly a decade ago, Mark and Alan Garner collaborated on The Beauty Things, a book that explored how the lives of people and objects become entangled. The focus in that work was on artefacts that had washed up against Alan over the years; things that he’d found, things he’d been given, things he’d inherited one way or another. Some of them have taken on a life as protagonists in his stories, while others have never featured but were important to him nonetheless. They are the things that help him tell his own story. The things that keep him safe. The stone at the centre of Making a Handaxe is one of those things.

Join us at this free event on Tuesday 15th November 2022 at 7.30pm in the John Rae room at Stromness Warehouse Buildings KW16 3AA.
