See the latest work from Orkney artist, Bill McArthur, at the Highland Park Whisky Store in Kirkwall.
Bill McArthur attended Edinburgh College of Art (School of Drawing & Painting) and Edinburgh University (Fine Art Department ), graduating in 1963. He then moved to London where he worked as a Junior Art Director with J. Walter Thompson Advertising before returning to Edinburgh to develop his own successful screen-printing business in the late Sixties and early Seventies. From there he moved to Sanday in Orkney and worked at sea, before picking up the paintbrushes once again.
Still mainly based in Sanday, Bill's work depicts some of Orkney's stunning seascapes, including wild waves, sea spray, and how the tide influences a wave's profile. He draws upon his experiences fishing off Orkney, Rockall, and the Hebrides, with his paintings capturing the unpredictability and beauty of the seas around the country and beyond.
This small exhibition of work at the Highland Park Whisky Store in Kirkwall will be open until 15 February, and Bill will donate £50 from each painting sold to Prostate Cancer Research. Buyers will also receive a Highland Park miniature whisky and glass.
