A Celebration in St Magnus Cathedral

An evening of Lectures, Music and Art Illuminating Orkney's Saga and Viking History
Free Admittance
The evening will feature a varied program including a musical introduction where the Mayfield Singers perform the St. Magnus Hymn and a musical interlude with the internationally acclaimed folk musician Hallvard T. Bjørgum. A few stanzas of Bjarne Kolbeinsson’s poem about the Viking king Harald Fairhair will also be read (see program). There will also be different short speeches by selected scolars about the Orkney Islands and the Norse settlements and the shared history. The event is scheduled to last approximately 2 hours.
Flateyjarbók contains the dramatic history of the Orkney Islands during the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. The Orkneyinga saga and other stories in Flateyjarbók connect tells about the shared history of Norway and the Orkney Islands
